Gauges installed. I have functional everything. I did find the dimmer in the headlight switch is not wonderful, so I bought a new one. I also found the windshield wiper switch is stripped so it can't be tightened to the dash, so I bought a new one. The gauges are super cool.

Wheels come Thursday. They were more expensive than I had thought.

The switches and the screws for the bezel (and a few other missing screws) coming this week.

I think I need to get it insured and registered. I could drive it in about a week.

Which part? I've been doing videos instead most of the time. There's a video of the gauge cluster a few posts back.

The shifter is annoying me. Who is an expert in external rod transmissions?

I had it rebuilt by Hurst some time ago. I lined up all the levers with a 1/4-in drill bit. One and two work okay, maybe a little notchy. Three and four work great. Reverse works, but when it goes into reverse, it pushes the one lever a little bit, not enough so that it's in more than one gear, but enough so that it won't go back into the one two gate. No matter what I do.

I think my shift rods are installed backwards.

Meaning each rod should have the ends switched between shifter and transmission.

I don't know, but it may be that the rods are hitting one another.

Also, I need reverse lights hooked to the transmission. That's like the only functional part left. I'm working on the dash part already. Tim is amazing.

Can anyone find a picture of the shifter rod orientation for this thing? It's called MY6. It's a variant of the A833 but different enough that the shifter rods are way different.

It seems most rod arrangements have the threaded end at the shifter, but I had then the other way. The only picture I've seen is from eBay and it's just the shifter but shows the bent ends at the shifter.

I had the bent ends at the shifter over the weekend, but last night I tried to switch that. It has different problems (1-2 rod threaded end doesn't fit in the shifter without hitting the reverse lever and hits the transmission on the other side) so I think that's wrong, but I'm doing so, I found the issues gone with the reverse detent.

So the shifter rods were the problem. Also they still are the problem.

In reply to tuna55 :

Doesn't specifically call out the A833 or the MY6, but the images here seem to show the threads at the shifter end.

Can the "hooked" ends of the linkages pass through the levers on the transmission from either direction (i.e. hook pointed toward the trans or away from the trans)? Just spitballing clearance fixes.

I've seen pictures both directions (bent ends at shifter and bent ends at transmission). The threaded ends seem to really struggle for lateral space on the shifter end, but bent ends in the shifter caused an interference with two rods. I might flip the bent ends, but it makes me uneasy because I expect all bent ends to face the same way. I'm not sure. It can physically fit either way.

Btw, good to hear from you, John!

Tires will be here a week from Friday.

Wheels come tomorrow.

Air cleaner and valve cover breathers coming today.

New headlight switch and wiper switch chime this Friday.

Time to think about a good differential.

I think the bent ends belong on the shifter

I'm a big fan of the Detroit TrueTrac (helical, Torsen style differential)

You could always do a lunchbox locker inside your existing diff.  No setup required.  The're..... maybe not best for the street, but it definitely limits slip.
