Super sorry to hear that. I don't look forward to such a day with my 87-year old father.
My Dads only 67. It scares me a bit. Encourages me to live it up while I can. And to make a plan to never let myself get to his situation.
Well my little dip into e82 ownership has not gone as planned. I had put maybe 50 miles on it and was really digging it. On the 3rd day of ownership, I took it out for a little spin. Getting close to home, I had an open stretch and ripped it up to redline in 2nd...3rd...clutch in to shift to 4th...and the engine shut off completely. I coasted into a nearby dog park parking lot. I tried several times to restart it and nothing but a clunk from the starter. It sure seemed to be seized up. I called AAA to tow it over to my local buddy's place, who is a solid independent BMW mechanic. His specialty is prepping 1's and 3's for track work, but does all things BMW. He confirmed - seized up.
Did the PO know something he didn't share? Did the oil level sensor not do its job? (what a berkeleying stupid system with no dipstick). Did the untuned ECU somehow cobntribute? Who knows? But now I've got a 128 with a dead engine. I've picked up another N52 and delivered it to my buddy. He says my car was originally an auto and has had the trans swapped, evidenced by the engine's aluminum oil pan and the trans cooler integrated somewhere in the front end. He's talked me into adding MILVS - MILVS (Modified Intake Lift Valvetronic Supports) before the new engine goes in and getting a tune from Epic Motorsports to support the MILVS, 3 stage intake manifold, and catless exhaust. So this has quickly changed directions from a "low budget" ownership. Pretty crappy, but aligns with my automotive luck lately. I'm confident that my buddy will hand me back a car that is better than it was. The "super deal" e82 is no longer a super deal. Ha!

See now I am a little scared to shop some more. That sucks. I will put my money you get a swapped car back with a good tune before the NC comes home.
