Why I splurged on a $70 phone mount

While my hands were clean and I was working on the interior, replacing the sagging headliner in my Porsche Cayman, I splurged on another quality-of-life improvement: a custom-made phone mount.

Call me a millennial all you want, but I wanted to be able to pick music or get directions while driving my Porsche–and I didn’t want the phone stuck on the windshield where it was hard to reach and blocked my vision, nor did I want to block a valuable air vent in the Florida heat.

So I bought a $70 mount from Rennline. The company makes mounts for a range of chassis, including 981 Caymans like mine, and it only took me a few minutes to bolt the magnetic mount down under my radio trim.

Just like that, I’ve got a unintrusive, sturdy mount without anything cluttering my windshield. It’s easily removable, too, if I ever sell the car.

I am a big fan of the Rennline vehicle specific mounts.  They just work much better than the generic mounts, and so far (E46 M3, Audi B8 A4, and even 1977 911S) they have been easy to install with great video instructions.  I'm hoping they come out with one for the B9 Audi I just bought.

I have one in my Macan. Super easy to install and it puts it in a great spot on the center console.   My only gripe is it shakes a little on rougher roads.

i have the charging version on my 997 and because Porsche so wisely put a cigarette lighter on the passenger side floor board, it makes it really easy to have a mag safe charger for my iphone.

I attempted to build something similar for my c6 using the pro-clip hoping that I could easily swap between the phone charger and my catalyst but the weight of the catalyst keeps breaking the pro-clip to the point where I do not recommend pro-clip any longer.

I have and love the rennline mount in my gti. Well made, easy install and easier on the eyes.

Yeah, all my cars have custom Rennline mounts and they all work great.

Rennline has one for my A3 Jetta.  I am shocked.

So, Rennline doesn’t make one for the newer Ford Maverick. Anybody got a recommendation for one designed for that vehicle?
