Our BMW had a lowered stance and fresh wheels, but did it still look a little too boring? It was faster, sure, but what if it looked a little sportier, too? So we went shopping for a rear spoiler–something subtle.

Since most sites didn’t show the spoilers attached, we ordered a few so we could demonstrate them ourselves. Plus, we figured, if we couldn’t return the ones we didn’t install, we could always sell them at next spring’s Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals swap meet.

The first one: an M4 carbon spoiler from BimmerWorld.

It sits a little low in the center, presumably to help rearward vision, and fit perfectly. The build quality seemed fantastic. Price was $204.95. It just wasn’t subtle enough for us.

Next up, we found a similar but shorter rear spoiler from K2 Industries.

Like the BimmerWorld piece, quality seemed top-notch and it fit perfectly. Price for this one was $229.99. It looked a little more subtle than the BimmerWorld piece. We thought it was perfect until a friend tipped us off to an even more subtle one from Advance Tuning and available via eBay.

Instead of carbon, this one was said to come in Alpine White, same as our 328i. Price was $99.99. So it was half the price but, in all fairness, half the spoiler, too.

As soon as we test-fitted the one from Advance Tuning, we knew it was the one for us–the subtle look we were after.

Now to mount it.

We cleaned the deck lid and then cleaned and sanded the mounting surface of the spoiler before taping it on with the included double-sided tape.

Installation took about 10 minutes. The spoiler perfectly fit and perfectly matched the paint. Next, we have some fluids to change.

I think that lip spoiler suits the car well. Not too shouty, but just enough to say "Hey, I'm not stock."

I have considered such a thing for my 128i. The company that offers the option selected does offer a paint-matched version that fits my car. I'm still not convinced, but it's better than the bare carbon alternatives. I will file this information away for potential future use.

That looks nice.  Good choice!

Thanks! I spent a good time online searching to find that--really disliked all the bare carbon looks.
