Well. Lando is looking a bit better for WDC, Max a little worse.
Ferrari. Nice day for them.
In an interview yesterday Lewis was asked if he was going to go aggressive into turn 1 and he replied with a “I don’t have anything to lose and Lando does”.
Hopefully Ferrari 2-3 can fight hard and early to stay up front. It would nice to see Lewis podium this year so the pity party can chill out a little
And a BS move from Leclerc on turn 1. Should have given the place back to Lewis after his little excursion. He was not ahead of him before going off, but stewards don't normally intervene between teammates.
Edit: Watching this again, Leclerc couldn't actually give the spot back because by the time he let Norris through, Verstappen was ahead of Hamilton. So it made sense to just keep Leclerc ahead. Just bad luck for Lewis unfortunately.
As whiny as he was demanding to swap positions, it was big of Russell to honor his word that he'd give it back if he couldn't pass Bearman.
Outstanding weekend for Lando, but can someone explain why the crowd in Mexico was booing him so much?
Most of the other sites I've followed (Facebook, reddit, autosport, BBC, and my wife does TicToc) are somehow calling Lando and Mclaren a big bob castas. Lot of hate on both the papaya for having the dominant car and they'd prefer a dominant driver and think neither him or Oscar are "deserving" champions this year. Some are Hamilton or Verstappen fans who are mad but probably mostly folks who tuned in due to drive to survive. Weird vibe.
They kept it hush hush on broadcast but damn if Liam Lawson did not almost give the marshals a Tom Pryce type event (do not watch that video).
I get Hamilton's penalty, but I don't really understand why Max didn't get a penalty for bumping Hamilton off the track. He didn't have control of his car, which is bad, and bumped Lewis off the track. Makes no sense that it was allowed. It wasn't subtle at all.
Heck of a race for Bearman and Haas there. Great race! He's clearly going to take Lewis' seat when Hamilton retires.

IMO there were three things at play. #2 and 3 seem ridiculous but I felt it as a strong presence in interactions at work in Mexico city.

He had just enough grass to make it! Also, he ended up out there by accident when he was the odd driver out of room on the left of the track. Rode the curb so couldn't brake properly and sailed off the road.
The VSC at the end was a shame, I think Max would have got it done. I am thankful that McLaren is making this championship exciting. It seems that Norris found another level in a hostile environment this weekend. Ollie was very impressive. Arvid Lindblad had a good FP1 for RB based on laptime. It will be a tough call if RB want to keep Liam or Yuki.
I think the smart move for RBR is what Karun Chandhok has been saying recently, keep all drivers where they are for next year. RBR should take advantage of the stability to have the best chance to figure out their bespoke power train in combo with a chassis rule change for 2026.

I was more disappointed that we weren’t going to see Oscar try to get past Bearman. There was more at stake there.
Max has benefited greatly from SCs in the past, I won’t shed any tears for him.
I think Ferrari wishes they could have Ollie in red jammies right now, let alone next year. I'm surprised he's not further up the driver's points chart. I also appreciate the improvement in HAAS's performance since Gunter left.
I was expecting a major shootout right at the end, but the racing gods intervened. Piastri seems to have come out of his coma a bit, at last. So, once again the race leader drove off into the sunset. I think winning a race by 30 sec is NOT good for the sport, and too many races have gone exactly this way.
On to the next one then......
In reply to MiniDave :
I doubt that. They are making a lot of money on Hamilton being part of the team- between showing up at sponsors and selling a ton of stuff to Hamilton fans who never dreamed of having any Ferrari stuff. The draw back has been that with the increased popularity has come even more press coverage of their failures.
I'm quite sure they are happy that Ollie should be his eventual replacement, though.
I think Max would have grabbed 2nd place except for the Virtual Safety Car. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it hurts. Racing....
Crawford to be Aston Martin third and reserve driver in 2026 I wonder if staying with as a RB development driver would have fast paced him into a seat, given the question marks for Yuki and Liam. Aston Martin doesn't seem to be a good 3rd driver role to get you anywhere into a race.
In reply to trigun7469 :
Aston has the opposite issue to RBR- where instead of having a driver like Max to make you look incompetent when it's the car, they have a driver like Lance that will never give up a seat even though he's gotten so very bad over time.
In reply to alfadriver :
Lance will leave when he is ready, however there have many drivers that have talked candidly that his wrist injury is still a issue. Perhaps that will be the decider, in ending his career. Let's be honest why wouldn't he want to drive next years brand new Newey car.
I’m no fan of Lance, but I have to admit I’m surprised he’s within 5 points of Alonso. Almost doesn’t seem possible because he looks so godawful at times, but the points don’t lie.
He's gotten better, there are worse drivers on the grid IMO, there are better drivers on the sidelines as well looking for a ride, but he's not as bad as everyone wants to think he is. Hell, I wouldn't mind being as good of a driver as him!
