I know.  And I’m still surprised he’s that close.

Lance will leave when he is ready, however there have many drivers that have talked candidly that his wrist injury is still a issue. Perhaps that will be the decider, in ending his career. Let's be honest why wouldn't he want to drive next years brand new Newey car.

Except that Lance isn't a driver who has the resume to dictate that.  Far more successful drivers have not been able to dictate when their career ends, only champions really have had the luxury to move when and where they want and retire when they want.

It's really hurting what Aston Martin can do.

Remember, we are comparing Lance to a teammate that last won his WC 20 years ago, and last won a race 12 years ago.  While it *seems* that he's still one of the best drivers out there, given his teammate, we really don't know if he is or not- all we can say is that he's better than his teammate.

I guess next season we will all find out how much it's car vs. driver.

This season really is starting to look like the 1996 F1 seasons. You have Mclaren=Williams, Ferrari=RB. Not sure who is Hill or JV as, Norris is the senior but has been fighting from behind. Schumi was defiantly delivering good results with a bad car, similar to what Max has done. What is interesting when you look at the past results, there are so many retirements. It's amazing with the points changes that 1996 with the current points system would have basically the same outcome just like the using the 96 points in 2025 is essentially the same for 1 & 2.

Rank Driver (1996 team)1996 Points (Actual)2025 Points (Converted)

1 Damon Hill (Williams)97/263

2 Jacques Villeneuve (Williams)78/231

3 Michael Schumacher (Ferrari)59/175

4 Jean Alesi (Benetton)47/137

5 Mika Häkkinen (McLaren)31/114

6 Gerhard Berger (Benetton)21/96

7 David Coulthard (McLaren)18/70

8 Rubens Barrichello (Jordan)14/47

9 Olivier Panis (Ligier)13/43

10 Eddie Irvine (Ferrari)11/42

With another sprint weekend coming up, it is likely that Max will narrow the gap to the two McLaren drivers in the championship standings.

The Mexican motorsport organization responsible for auto racing activity related to the F1 race has stated that they determine that Liam Lawson did not correctly respond to the double yellows and thus created a dangerous situation. Upon seeing some still photos of the incident I did wonder if Lawson stopped the car. Even if he could only stop after passing the marshals.

I have always been curious about that since the protestor running down hanger straight. Cars dodged him but didn't stop on track. It is probably a safety blind spot the FIA need to address. If a driver comes across a person on the track surface they must stop the car before proceeding past.

I would put Lance on the shelf next yr BECAUSE its a Newey car and if they RB it for the 1st yr of the new regs it might be Astons one chance at a title.

F1 doesn't stop cars on track even for red flags, why would a car stop on a live track for a waved yellow?

I understand that, maybe an enforced adjustment to the rules is needed to require pit lane speed limiters to be engaged in double yellow areas. IDK Liam expressed such shock, but has been taught to just dodge and carry on his whole career. An area of concern I have had for decades. The pressure of competition and legacy leads driver's to maximize yellow flag situations.

Double waved:

This means drivers need to reduce their speed significantly, cannot overtake and must be prepared to change direction or stop, due to a hazard wholly or partly blocking the track and/or marshals working on or beside the track.

Yes I've had issue with the lack of respect given with trackside workers and double waved yellows.

Its nice when your maintaining a gap to the 2nd place car, check up for a flat bed retrieving a broken car and the other guy zooms right up to the bumper....
