So, this is just a placeholder for what will become a build thread for a 3970010 Chevy 4-bolt small block that may or may not have a forged crank

Will it be a stock rebuild of an excellent survivor? A goosed up small block with fancy doodads and shiny new bits? A full blown stroked torque monster? A financial black hole that leads to despair and ruin?
Don't you want to know?!?
In for updates, though I think my days of two-piece rear main seals and flat tappet cams are behind me.
What about graphite coated fiber based rope?

The 2 pc rear main seal is a necessary evil with this block. But aluminum heads with a hydraulic roller cam and full roller rocker retrofit setup may or may not already be in my cart at summit...
That's kinda part of the point of this thread. As I get my thoughts together (and budget) I'm gonna post them here and hopefully get some feedback. A bare block rebuild has been on the ol bucket list for a long time, and I happen to have this spare SBC laying around, so why not make some questionable decisions and poorly planned financial transactions?
I've never been this deep into an engine before, so I'm well out of my depth already. But I live close to a good machine shop, I'm armed with a few David Vizard books, a decent assortment of hand and power tools, I have a spare garage bay and an active cable modem. How bad can it go?
As an aside, I also have my own backyard aluminum foundry setup, and may or may not decide to make own cast timing and valve covers. Timing cover won't be a challenge size wise. Valve covers are a different animal, but I love a challenge.

Put one of these in it too

The though had occurred to me. Should that be a forged crank in my block, I may make some unusual purchases.
