I'm with Drillin' on liking legit race cars with some pace. Maybe something open wheel? I like the nostalgia stuff, but if the cars are terrible to drive and boring it really reduces the enjoyment.
These cars are a lot of things... boring is certainly not one of them (please note the obvious drift the car is in)

They are absolutely a challenge to drive, but will be wildly entertaining when you figure them out. Of note is that AC does not properly simulate the horrible brake fade these cars had.
We do have some Formula Atlantic type cars and F-vee also. The F-vee I would say is so low powered, I am not sure they would be as entertaining as some other cars.
Honda S600, Alto, Miata, F350 Stair Truck, or any other E36 M3box has my support
If race cars are necessary, DTM
Doing a vintage open wheel one make series would also be solid. They're fun and challenging to drive, but rewarding and not frustrating. I think doing a lotus 27 (or 49) series would also help us become better at driving - a nice side benefit.
you could try the ultima gtr; fast, fun, small amount of adjustment and there are plenty of different power levels from 500 to 1500hp. Definitely not a 10/10ths car though.
or 1999 BTCC with such cars as the ford mondeo, nissan primero, honda accord, vauxhual vectra, volvo s40, renault laguna & bmw 320i

I am hilariously bad at drifting.

This might be the funniest promo I've ever seen for a racing series
I am trying to come up with a way to set up a car and track repository on line. I don't want it to be super public but more of a place for us here in GP Simsports to have access to. Kind of a speakeasy of Assetto Corsa content.
Anyone have any ideas?
So this week will be more testing. I have several cars from that group of about 20 that I tested that I would like to test. I will see about setting things up tonight and up loading the comtent to the testing folder.
If anyone has a car to test we could do that as well
Air do you want to select a couple of cars from the Pack you put up? Say 4-5 cars from it? I seem to remember them all being relatively equal.
If the mystery car does not show up before Wednesday we will postpone that until the next season.
This season I am hoping to get away from a super modern race car type car like we just did. A well balanced car with a limited amount of tuning available on tires that are not completely crap is the goal. More of a HPDE type car.
Could we do a race just for fun tonight in the gp simsports news van?
In reply to 09Unwound :
Not a bad idea (tomorrow BTW)...
...I think it needs about 400 more hp...
... that can be done pretty easily...

In reply to aircooled :
See I knew it was tomorrow but it didnt register for some reason. But I think that could be a ton of fun.

Ok we need to do this even if it is just a 3-4 lapper.
I'm out tonight, haven't gotten everything fully set up yet. The Simnet SP Pro pedals I bought are more complicated than I originally anticipated LOL
In reply to cmcmillin31 :
I had to look those pedals up. Those seems like really sweet pedals.
In reply to gunner (Forum Supporter) :
Yeah once I get it all sorted out they should be solid, gotta order some more parts to reinforce the rig since it's flexing way too much. Also the integration with my fanatec wheel is a bit weird on the software side too. Doing this sim racing hobby is like a microcosm of messing around with real cars LOL, frustration followed by learning with the occasional high mixed in there.
Most likely one more week of testing. Mostly because I want to test the new server a little more. I also have a couple cars to test.
I will be on later tonight I am going to be messing with tire ware and maybe track temps and weight. See if weight increases tire ware. Among other things.
In reply to cmcmillin31 :
Sounds lovely
On the server are the two cars we will be testing this week. One is a Kunos car one is on the google drive. I am hoping we come to a consensus. The lotus is a bit more of a momentum car where as the Aston is heavier with more hp. However the lotus does have a power to weight advantage. My plan it to run a race with each. Probably have a 5 min qual and a 15 min race.
I hope to be on tomorrow (Monday) to do some tire testing.
Thanks to Sauce joining me tonight for some testing I think I get a Handel on the tire ware. The server has it on at the moment. It definitely adds an interesting dynamic to a race. Basically we figured out that you can no pit stop it or pit stop it and the net time for a whole race is very close. So you can choose to run all out but most likely run out of tires for the last lap or two. Or run a conservative slower but steady pace and have more tire left at the end. Or run like a mad man but make a stop for tires looses 25-27 seconds but be at full pace to the end chasing down those that are trying to no stop it.
An interesting thing I looked at is the HC weight does not appear to increase tire ware. So the HC will not amplify tire ware making the HC even more harsh. This is something I was worried about. Sauce was the tester of this.
Also I found that adding 100kg in sauces car only slows him down about one second a lap. 200kg equaled 2 seconds a lap. (No wonder he does not seem to be effected by the HC.

I don't see how anyone can possibly make up 25+ seconds in a 7-10 lap race... the tire deg would have to be incredibly bad to make this work, and I don't think that's going to make things more fun for anyone. I only see this working if the pit stop is mandatory. And I still think it will just make a mess of things.
Maybe if we wanted to do one or two 'endurance' races per series at double length... 30 or 40 minute race? And keep the rest sprint races...
Anyway, I'm not going to be on tonight. I posted on Discord, but between the Lotus and Aston, the Aston is faster, sounds better and is much more fun to drive.
In reply to Rodan :
The aston seems to be getting the approval of the majority of people. Unless things change I am thinking it will be where we are going.
I was able to make up the time because over a 15 min race the tires fall off that much in total versus the time it takes to make a pitstop.
Is it a bit of a gimmick? Sure but it adds somthing else to the party that we have to deal with in real racing just that it is usually in much longer races.
I have considered going to a longer race format. We have done more endurance based series with single one hour races or duel half hour races and while I like them I also don't like them because if you have a mess up in T1 lap one you spend the next hour riding around by your self. At least with the twin 15 min races if you end up by your self it is for a short period of time. Lastly there is the problem of people on the east coast running longer races means being up late on a week night.
Everything is balance.
