At 5:49 you can see where I was so busy trying to choose a path through all the cars spinning and sliding in front of me that I missed my own braking point and sent myself into the grass...

Tonight should be fun.  This is a great track!!!  The best I can get is a low/mid 1:42.  Average laps seem to be high 42 low 43's.

I will be on line a little early as I did not get any practice in yesterday.

Road Atlanta is my favorite track I've ever driven in real life and the only track on our list this season I've actually driven. I've only been there once, and I am still fairly new myself, so I am struggling with the FF on some of the same corners like T1.

My first time coming onto the main straight, I went off to the left and parked in the grass between the left pit entry and the straight, haha

I'm also struggling with T1.... getting the FF to behave consistently has been, well, difficult.  cheeky

Not my best race. The weight is bringing to light my lack of skill when it comes to momentum driving.  I swapped setups for the second race and it was better. My off early on put me way at the back but I was driving better than the first race.

Yeah, mediocre night.  I think we're all coming to terms with the car, it's just that minor incidents are far more likely to result in a big off with the FF.  I had a good start in both races, but hooked a curb in the esses and took myself out in race 1, and in race 2 I hit Mike from behind when he checked up in T1 because he had contact with another car.  Just a racing incident... nothing either of us could do.

Looking forward to the finale next week, and moving on.  I do think having run these cars is a good skill development exercise, but I am looking forward to a car that's a little less 'work' and more 'fun'.  wink

I know a lot of my pace is from the driver aids - especially paddles. I don't have an H shifter, but I want to eventually add one. Until then, the paddles are definitely a speed advantage. Same for ABS and TC, so that got me wondering if we could do a penalty system next season? It might have to be on the honor system, but could there be a way to add handicap ballast like 5kg for ABS, 5kg for TC, and 10kg for paddles? Real series do something similar, but I don't want to open a whole policing issue.

Speaking only for myself, but as someone who relies on the aids that you mention, I think my skill level is enough of a handicap that I don't need any more. laugh

Paddles are definitely an advantage with cars like the FF, and the vintage GT cars we ran a couple of series ago, but I don't think they were enough of an advantage to justify a 'penalty'.  In this series we are all running ABS because the FF is pretty much undriveable without it.  In other series, we've found that using ABS and TC are actually slower, so I think it's a wash...  using the aids will sometimes help one driver, while hurting another.

Not sure if we want to get that deep into it.  If someone is doing well, they're going to get HC anyway...?

That's true. I've played around with TC off, and TC is definitely slowing down corner exit a little but not enough to risk running without it (for me).

Paddles without a clutch are a disadvantage because A) you can't control the launch and B) you can't soften the downshifts.  In theory you can drive paddles with a clutch pedal, but my brain can't do that aside from the initial launch.

I've never experienced a car in AC where ABS was slower.

So I actually rev for downshifts, and it helps a ton. For launches, a N-1 dump with TC works pretty well. I run a really long 1st gear though, so my starts are terrible regardless.

The Singers...  When I turned off the ABS, I was able to brake harder/later.  Probably only possible with a load cell pedal.

I use paddles, no clutch and ABS. I've gone back and forth using the H pattern depending on the car, but it's been having issues sometimes reading the incorrect gear (reads 3rd as 1st) so I haven't used it in a while.

Not going to try and figure that HC system out. I adjust ABS on and off on my wheel. In some cars I adjust abs as a race goes on. I Definitly adjust TC in cars that have different levels of it as a race goes on. It can help to maintain balanced car rotation out of corners.  It is simple. Use the tools available to you and figure out what makes you fastest.

Everyone has access to the same stuff. In the end it really is driver skill that wins. I would love to blame ABS for making me slower but I know it is me that needs improvement to go faster.

Will this work for a sticker?  It's slightly rough because it's all pixels.  Not sure if you can create a cutting path, or needs to be cleaner.  It should be high enough resolution (6x6 inches at 300 dpi).  I put this one in the transfer folder.

You don't order them really.  If you ask Travis (Darwin) nicely enough... he gives them away!

If you attend 50% of races you get one... if you give me an address to send it to (a number of people apparently dont want them *cough* drillin)

(That was for season 18 stickers)

LOL... yeah.  I am finding it to be much better behaved at Nurburgring.  I have to wonder if it's just an artifact of some of the track modeling, or if the sim is accurate enough to model how different tracks (camber/crown/crests/kerbs, etc) can affect the handling of a car so dramatically?
