Short story even shorter, I fell yesterday and managed to completely angulated fracture my non-dominant wrist. 6 hours, a cross between a medieval torture device and a Chinese finger trap and 2 sets of the break later I'm home. The docs are saying at least 12 weeks to heal and I have to call ortho in an hour to schedule because I might need surgery. So much for driving this year.

It berkeleying HURTS too
At least it wasn't your dominant hand! At 27 I had to learn to wipe with the wrong hand, which wasn't fun!
Not a break, but a sprain in my dominant wrist that wouldn't heal led to me being diagnosed with "Kienböck disease." 3 surgeries to my wrist later, and it doesn't feel much better and my strength / grip is still bad. I will say that occupational therapy after the surgeries did a lot for range of motion and usability of my wrist, so I would certainly do those if you can.

Looks like a Jerrry Lewis movie.

Used to work with a guy that fit certain stereotypes. Overheard another coworker describe the first guy as "The only guy ive ever met that could switch hands and gain a stroke."
Interesting how some things just stick with you.
Jav, take it easy. Heal up. Wrist stuff is no fun.

Oh that doesn't look fun. Hope for the best in your healing.
In reply to Austin Cannon :
Had a friend who tried to hop some railroad tracks on his 10 speed bike but the front wheel fell off and he went head over teakettle and broke both wrists. I wonder if his wife helped him in the bathroom.

This was me the day after my first wrist surgery. On a ton of painkillers, in an unfamiliar location, and having to learn to wipe with the wrong hand on the fly. Good times 😅

Thanks everyone. It hurts like a bear

A line from a greeting card I saw yesterday:
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Except Bears. Bears will kill you.
Wow, fractures suck. I hope for a full and fast recovery for you.

He was probably watching women's volleyball when it happened.

I was racing my kid of all things. She went 5-0 at track this year and is rubbing the all city finals tomorrow in the mile. She was feeling anxious so I went to warm up with her. Her jog is my sprint, and I ended up tripping at full speed and landed on my wrist on asphalt. Do not recommend.

Lol guys wrong hand. The stranger is the one that's broken.
That really sucks; I'm sorry to hear that you are in pain!
I broke my dominant wrist really badly a couple years ago when someone glued to their phone ran a red light at speed and T-boned me on my motorcycle. Thankfully, the two surgeries were both successful and allowed me to retain a somewhat functional joint, but not like it was before.
I don't have too many words of wisdom, but I can say that the pain will subside. Take care of yourself otherwise (hydration, rest, diet, etc) and be ready to tackle the exercises, stretches, and therapy when you get there, even if it is tedious and painful. Once you lose the range of motion and grip strength, it is difficult if not impossible to get it back, and it impacts more than you can imagine. It will likely be more of a marathon than a sprint race, so pace yourself.
Best of luck, we're all pulling for you! 😁

I inadvertently crushed my right forearm arm in a hydraulic press years ago. Lost all the feeling in my hand for about half a year, and to this day (30+ years later) I still don't have all the feeling or strength back.
I'm MUCH more ambidextrous (helpful when welding), and can now write (both printed and cursive) in reverse (that is: mirrored). Not a money maker, but a cool party trick.
And.... I... um... I have continued wiping with the wrong hand ever since.
I'm on month 7 of my elbow injury recovery track so I feel you. My advice right now is grin and bear it. Take as little pain meds as you can tolerate, that stuff is terrible for you. And when the Physical therapist telks you to exersize at home, do it. It's crucial to regaining full use of the arm.
Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I don't think we have to teach you anything about a broken wrist. It looks like you did a great job without help.
Please feel less pain soon and heal well.
Occupational Therapist/hand therapist here. We rehab hand and wrist injuries.
Make sure they refer you to occupational therapy for rehabilitation. regain strength, ROM, and address pain, swelling, etc.
I imagine they have already talked to you about it, but I'm shocked how often this doesn't happen and people don't get the rehab they need.

Thank you! I will make sure OT is covered and I will do it.
Surgery tomorrow. I get a titanium plate in my arm.
Getting wheeled back for surgery #2...
