Alfa Romeo produced just 38 examples of its 8C 2900–and even fewer remain in existence. This one, however, isn’t quite like the others. It’s the only 8C 2900 that had its original body built in Germany.

Why was it bodied in Germany? Because its first owner, Ernst Carstens, was in Germany–and it wasn’t seen as patriotic at the time to own a foreign car in that country. So, it is believed that Karosseriewerk Aug Nowack built a body that bears a strong likeness to Erdmann & Rossi bodies fitted to Horch roadsters.

Today, the 8C 2000 wears a Zagato-style body, but the original Nowack body accompanies the car, for those wishing to return it to its original state.
