What’s on the horizon from Lexus with two doors?

It seems like forever since we saw something new with two doors from Lexus. Their lone option, the LC, has been out since 2017. The recently retired RC dated back to 2014. Is the Lexus Sport Concept, which debuted during Monterey Car Week a possible reality? It made another appearance at the Japan Mobility Show.

If Lexus wants to remain relevant to the sports car world–and it seems like it does–we’re long overdue for a new two-door sports car. The LFR is rumored to be headed our way, but in the meantime, the LC is it, and certainly the only car that's not in possible supercar territory.

Because the reality in this segment now, is that people no longer aspire to just one type of car especially when viewed from a global perspective,” Lexus Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries conceded. “We as a brand believe that the emotional side of driving will always remain.”

At the Japan Mobility Show, Lexus revealed three wild concepts for to carry on the name of its flagship car, the LS. One was a two-door SUV–and then it gets far weirder.

The other is a six-wheel, van-like LS concept.

And the last looks like a suitcase, the LS Micro Concept.

Since the Lexus LS was introduced in 1989,” Humphries said, “the rules of the luxury market have changed dramatically. Once upon a time, executive sedans ruled the automotive world. Now, they are fighting a losing battle with SUVs.”

In the words of my spirit animal Ricky Bobby, but “I wanna go fast.” That applies to even luxury models. The LS concepts revealed don’t seem to fit that mold, so maybe we’ll get lucky and see the Sport Concept become reality. We can only hope.

Gotta say, I love hearing the V8 sounds from the LC, especially at speed on track.

You know, I'm kinda surprised Lexus never offered a rebadged GR86 or Supra.

Lexus SC300/SC400 was closely related to the 4th gen Supra.   The SC430 is, IMHO, best forgotten.

I hope LC prices will come down as they fade.  They are such cool cars.

Love these things.  They look good in photos but in person they are just so so good.

The color sells me on that one.

I know the LC is more of a grand touring car, but it'd look way cool in a Vasser Sullivan livery and a big old rear wing, IMO.
