Buy or build? For Travis Truman, the answer was simple: Buy this track-prepped BMW M3 so he could concentrate on turning laps and building skills. That was back in early 2023.

A previous owner had already thrown a bunch of track-proven parts at the build, including Apex wheels, an Injen intake, BimmerWorld bushings, a Fall-Line Motorsports half-cage, and a Momo seat and harness. The rod bearings had been done, and the car already wore some Kumho track tires.

Success,” Travis said in his build thread on our forum, “will be measured by a safe return home, learning the new car, and building comfort and speed on Thunderbolt, a track I haven't been on in two-plus years.”

How’d the year actually go? Other than doing some minor work on the car–adding a GoPro and Garmin Catalyst, replacing some OE parts, moving to an Optima battery with a BimmerWorld mount–it was mostly spent running laps with very little drama or downtime.
