Just bought an ‘01 Miata with 338k on the clock.  Third Miata, first NB.  I’ve raced no fewer than 10 Miatas over the years, mostly NA’s, but a few NB’s.  This street car that I just bought doesn’t seem to have the ‘coming on the cam’ feel that I’m used to.  It seems to have regular power up until 3500rpm, but then I never get that kick that I’m used to.

It has a PO106 and a PO107 CEL code, but it has new a new MAP sensor from previous owner.  It idles fine, but does stumble every once in a while leaving a stoplight.  I don’t see or hear any vacuum leaks.

Anything in particular I should be looking for?  Chance the new MAP sensor is bad from the start?

It's probably worth popping the top timing cover off to check that the cams are timed properly, off by a tooth might explain a weird power curve.

Vacuum leaks on an NB can be subtle.  I chased down a couple on my NB lately that I couldn't either see or hear but which were making it run badly.  Turned out to be dried out rubber seals where the fuel injectors go into the head and leaking metal gaskets on the idle solenoid and EGR valve.  Smoke machines are cheap and will quickly find these problems.
