What formula makes the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car? Every year, we set out to answer that question with the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.

This year, that winning formula is a built Ford Mustang, driven to the fastest lap time of 1:41.244 by Brian Faessler.

For his efforts, Brian wins the biggest trophy, a $1000 Tire Rack gift certificate and tons of ink in Grassroots Motorsports.

Second place, won by Andrew Dekoning in a Tesla Model S Plaid, wins a really big trophy and a $1000 Tire Rack gift certificate.

Rounding out the top three, and winning a big trophy and $1000 Tire Rack gift certificate, is Ryan Mathews in a Chevrolet Corvette.

The prizes don’t end at the bottom of the podium, however, as we had awards to hand out to the top eight finishers:

Pssst...wanna know a secret?

Faessler's boost controller was broken and they were only running 4 psi of boost.

He can go even faster.

Wild.

I didn't perform well, but had fun. Really enjoyed the track and finally got a sense of how it flows in my last session.

My best was in the 1:56 range. I know I left a LOT of time on the table ... but its insane to see people 15 seconds per lap faster!

In my books, having fun and being able to bring home a clean car is a win. We hope you come back next year!

Just curious... how is it that new a Ford Mustang with an unlimited 800 HP turbo charged engine and wide open giant aero package has a fastest lap time of 1:41.244 at Pitt while the highly regulated  SCCA GT-1. Lap record set on 4/30/22 is 1:38.98?  I'm almost certain that the latest T/A-1 car would be even faster still.

I mean no disrespect. The cars look great.      I've been away from racing for a while, just trying to understand.

Is it the weight difference, the tires that are being used? Or is it drag from the big wings and splitters taking speed off the car?

Did you see my comment above?  His boost controller was broken so they were waaaaay down on power.

He's done 36's here before.

Further, Faessler's car is a production tub while a TA  or GT1 car are tubeframe chassis with a fabricated body over it.

Would a faster combo be an unrestricted TA car with big aero? Likely.  Build it and bring it!

Yeah I was down around 300rwhp compared to a TA/GT1 car and they're about 600lbs lighter as well.

Back in 2023, I did a 1:36.9 at the 2023 NASA Nationals.  2023 TTU National Championships 1:36.9

Cool, looking forward to seeing you running with all the boost. How fast do you figure a top flight T A-1 car would go?

Has anyone "built it and brought it" as in a tube frame, composit body, big areo TTU Car?
