Well that was exciting! And at speeds only dreamed of by old small bore drivers. The circuit almost looked like it was freshly paved!
Fighting for traction, screaming for downforce. So Rowdy.
I was rooting for a MPH starting with 2 to show up.
Got dayum. Some of those blind down hill sections at speeds over 160mph are insane. My stomach tightens just watching it, I can't imagine driving it. Bravo.

I saw 199 at the end of the back straight. Man what a tease. I saw 185mph on a couple other straights that looked nowhere near long enough to hit that kind of speed. Amazing.
Just watching that made me tense. I can't imagine screaming into some of those blind curves at those speeds. Amazing cars!
I second all those tense comments. My heart rate is starting to go back to normal now. And yeah, the speeds, just unbelievable. Pulling that stuff in a road car is unimaginable.
1. It's interesting how noisy it gets at 175+ mph.
2. I'd love to see how hot this engine/trans gets on these runs.
That was enjoyable. Good clear video.
When you get to be my age you spend some time in MRI machines. To pass the time and ignore the banging clanking crazy noises, I usually mentally turn laps in my head at Road Atlanta, WGI, Road America, etc. I've run those tracks enough to have a visual memory of the whole circuit. But...Nurburgring... not sure I have enough memory cells left to memorize that track. WOW!
They probably ran it late afternoon to get the best conditions, but going from dark shade into bright sun, back and forth, was interesting visually.

Oversimplifying a bit, but:
The ZR1 has 1,064 horsepower and is currently the peak evolution of the RWD Corvette. It more or less combines the Z06's engine with a couple 76mm turbochargers.
The ZR1x has 1,250 horsepressures and accomplishes this by adding the E-ray's electric motor to the front axle of the ZR1.

Yeah, that was the most impressive bit to me.
Cool! Also makes me wonder what magic Porsche has that the GT3 RS keeps up with this monster while having half the hp/torque. Maybe a pro driver could knock a couple of seconds per lap off of the time and give the Vette the edge?
Unless I'm not seeing the video correctly, I also find it impressive that the driver isn't using the paddle shifters and is instead letting the car choose the gears.
And I totally get it, because if the car is smart enough to pick the right gear, I'd let it handle that, too, so I could better focus on not sending the car into a wall.

At some point I think that the tires become the ultimate fuse in the system. The game is to get as close to 100% tire use at every point on track, and I think past those GT3RS power levels the returns diminish drastically.
The Dottinger Hohe straight is nearly 1.5 miles long, and the ZR1 entered it at over 120mph, yet couldn't top 200mph in terminal velocity. That kind of tells me they're running an absolutely mental amount of downforce to get the most out of those tires through the rest of the fairly tight circuit. I bet some sort of active aero or active trim system picks up a couple seconds, easy.
I too noticed how slow acceleration was above 140. Figured they were running a lot of downforce. Seems the straights come at about the right times in a lap to let the tires cool a bit. Would like to know more about the tires.
