With a history dating back to 1988 in WRC, STI represents the pinnacle of performance for Subaru. Now 37 years later, Subaru will present not one, but two concepts on October 29 at the Japan Mobility Show.

The Performance-E STI concept is a BEV, with a design that “combines exciting proportions with high aerodynamic performance and practicality, while also reminiscent of heritage, and realizes an easy-to-drive layout and a comfortable and open interior space,” Subaru says.

The Performance-B STI concept is an ICE-powered car. Its design “combines high performance and power with practicality,” Subaru says. “In addition, by flexibly arranging assets such as horizontally opposed turbo engines and symmetrical AWD, which Subaru has been refining so far, it is a model that expands Subaru’s unique options and proposes the pleasure of driving a car to more customers.”

What does all this mean? I guess we’ll find out October 29. The good news is that means it’s a day earlier for us on the East Coast in the U.S., 11:30 p.m. to be exact, for those setting an alarm now.

The language used to describe the Performance-E STI makes me think it will be shaped more like a sleek crossover.

As for the Performance-B STI, that's definitely a WRX front end–though the "practicality" line makes me think it could be more like the Levorg.

Because what the world needs right now is more stupidly powerful, big and heavy SUV EV's ripping off great names with racing heritage

Waiting for the announcement that the ICE powered vehicle will have a CVT with “tuned by STI” faux-shift points. indecision

For that matter, the BEV will probably have superkewl shift points, too.

Anybody else read BEV as bike engined vehicle?

I didn't get that far, stopped reading when it became apparent that it was going to weigh over 2800lb.

The world has enough ponderous trucks.  Mazda can't make enough NDs.

I think I'll keep the GR Corolla.  Oh Subbie, what happened to you?

Somewhat related: Did anyone else hear rumours that Subaru was considering bringing the Levorg stateside? Maybe I'm making it up, but I thought I read it somewhere on the interwebs...

If Subaru could give us the Levorg with a decent wet clutch DCT instead of a CVT for us commuters, I'd consider getting into a Subaru again. But let's not kid ourselves, that's never going to happen.
