$750.00 (cheap!) Manual transmission, AWD

Location:  Newburgh, NY 12550

Anyone interested? It runs, and technically it drives, but it needs a clutch. It slips pretty bad. I wouldn't drive it far. And by "far" I mean more than a few blocks, it is hilly here.

Shifter could use new bushings but I drove it that way for about 5 or 6 years. You get used to it.

It was a daily driver until the clutch went bad about 7 or 8 months ago. Was still a daily driver until it *really* started to slip about a month later.

Has sat since (about 6 months now), collecting leaves, twigs, and pollen. I would love to see it get a second life as a challenge car, but I can't do it. I have no time and I'm not a good enough mechanic to replace the clutch in my gravel driveway.

Started it today and it still runs fine.

Has 254,000 miles.

Exhaust is rusted. Probably (definitely) needs other things I can't think of right now. Probably lots of minor problems.

All glass is good. Tires look ok. Has the usual rust behind the rear wheels.

Maybe a good challenge car? I'll take more pictures and answer any questions if anyone is interested.

If you were closer to Maine or if I could limp it home...

I'm sure if you still have it closer to Challenge time, it'll sell!

I might. I'm not in any real hurry to get rid of it, but I could definitely use the driveway space.

And yeah, I wouldn't try to limp it to Maine! I already put as much slack on the cable as I can, in a sorry attempt to get it to grab lower. It does, but it still slips.

I totally understand wanting the driveway space. Thankfully our townhome has a parking lot near the entrance, so as long as a car has a tag on it, I can park it out there. It's nice when we have 6 cars at the house and only room for 2 in the driveway 😂

Those are super easy to change a clutch in. You don't even need to remove axles, just the rear driveshaft, slide the trans back enough to slip a new one in from the top no less.

i have done one so I didn't know any better.

If it has a cable clutch, it may be overadjusted.  You had to regularly adjust the cable on Subarus and most people didn't.

The clutch will still be fried from slipping, but you may be able to get it good enough to drive home.

i'll admit i hadn't adjusted the cable at all when it seemed fine, but when it started slipping i adjusted it. it's now adjusted to the point where there's even a little slack in the cable when the clutch is engaged. it grabs almost immediately, but still slips pretty bad, especially on hills and when accelerating. on the highway, it will even slip just trying to maintain speed.

so it is definitely fried, but i don't think you can get it good enough to limp it home.

That's the way mine was when I got it.  You couldn't maintain 60mph in top gear or it'd start slipping, even after fixing the cable.  I drove it home in 4th and 3rd to keep the required torque down.

Fortunately, there were no hills between my home and the guy selling it.

yeah, unfortunately, i live in the middle of a hill. there's no way to get it out of here without going uphill, unless you live near the Newburgh waterfront area.

Possible, yes, we never removed the wheels or front drive shafts.

I pulled the rear drive shaft, put the long trans bolts in the short bolt holes, slid the trans back enough to R&R the clutch.  The started may have been the hardest part to remove and one screw that is hard to get to and you have to remember to put in back in first or omit it like I did.  It was on my cousins car, we did it for 1/4 of the quoted price.
