Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: More of the same (and that’s just fine)

Everything you know and love about the Ioniq 5 N, now in sedan flavor.

The crowds at Goodwood on Thursday were greeted by the all-new Ioniq 6 N, featuring Hyundai's iconic Performance Blue and a sizable rear wing.

[Goodwood Festival of Speed | What You Need to Know]

On paper, the Ioniq 6 N is quite similar to the Ioniq 5 N, boasting 600 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque (641 horsepower and 568 lb.-ft. of torque when you press the N Grin Boost button) going to all four wheels. Likewise, both cars are capable of a 0-60 time of under 3.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 160 mph.

Size-wise, the 6 N is longer, sits lower and features a shorter wheelbase. Width, on the other hand, is virtually identical.

While neither an official curb weight nor an estimated driving range has yet to be released, there is one interesting difference to note: the coefficient of drag is 0.27 for the 6 N, compared to the 0.313 of the 5 N.

Besides that, you’ll find many of the same fun-to-drive gimmicks found in the Ioniq 5 N, like launch control, battery preconditioning, programming that makes the car easier to drift, the previously mentioned N Grin Boost and the simulated close-ratio gearbox plus engine sounds.

The 6 N does get a new exterior color choice, Performance Blue Pearl, in addition to the Abyss Black Pearl, Serenity White Pearl, Nocturne Gray Metallic, Nocturne Gray Matte and Gravity Gold Matte already available across Hyundai’s lineup.

Inside, you’ll be greeted by a familiar dark interior with those signature Performance Blue accents.

Much of the same? Yes, but that’s not a bad thing at all–though we’ll hold final judgement until we get the chance to drive the new 6 N on track–preferably at our official test track, the Florida International Rally and Motorsport Park.

We’re sold, but we’re eager to hear your thoughts.

The color break somehow makes this even uglier.

So they've made huge jumps in how great their cars are to drive, but not looks.

Its still not the best looking car in the world but I think the wing and spoiler make it easier to look at.

I'll take mine with a wing delete, and leave just the duckbill.  Color match the rockers/bumpers to blue as well.

I personally think it'd be cooler if it were a bit sleepier.

It's a bummer that a car that looks so good at the front end looks so bad aft of the A pillars.

I can't help but think of the J30 every time I see one of these.

I'll add that I think it looks pretty neat. Definitely different, though.

I'll hold my final judgement until I see one in person, however.

Do we know pricing on this yet? Hyundai N produts are fun (I have an EN) but if it's similar to the $66k for the I5N, it's tough for me to see the appeal. A Model 3 performance is $10k cheaper. A Mustang Dark Horse is $7k cheaper. You can even get a CT4 Blackwing at this price point. Lots of compelling options to cross shop. Traditionally Hyundai trys to wins by being the value proposition in the room but that won't be true here unless the price comes in significantly under the I5N (and I hope it will).

There's a standard ioniq 6 in my neighborhood and I was surprised by how good it looks in person. Don't imagine I'll be dropping 65k+ on any vehicle in the near future but I'm curious to see how this fares against something like the new M5 or a CT5 blackwing.

The standard Ioniq 6 starts at $39k, while the standard Ioniq 5 starts at $44k. So it would be logical for the Ioniq 6N to be around $5k less than the 5N.
