Spec MX-5 racers in SCCA competition will ride on a different brand’s rubber next year. Gone are the Toyo RR and RA1 tires and in are the Hoosier SMX and SMXW ones.
The change becomes effective on January 1, 2026 for Hoosier Super Tour, U.S. Majors Tour, and Regional SCCA events. Those with 2025-spec Toyos may use them at Conference Majors and Regionals through April 30, 2026.
“Our engineering team worked to design a compound and construction that delivers consistent performance, durability, and predictability, which are key for a competitive spec platform,” said Paul Menting, VP Sales, Hoosier Racing Tire. “This collaboration represents our continued commitment to supporting grassroots motorsports with a cost-effective tire that delivers the consistent performance and reliability racers expect from Hoosier.”
The 215/40R17 SMX and SMXW tires retail for $290 and $305, respectively.
Hoosier will also support the class with a contingency program for drivers competing in Hoosier Super Tours, U.S. Majors Tours, Conference Championships, and at the National Championship Runoffs.
The agreement for Hoosier to be the exclusive tire supplier for the SCCA Spec MX-5 class runs through 2028.
